Newcastle United extended their unbeaten run to a club-record 15 top-flight games with their third goalless draw against Crystal Palace this season.

The Magpies, who moved up to third, had the better chances with Vicente Guaita denying Joelinton three times and Callum Wilson, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak all failing to score headers.

This draw meant Newcastle are eight points behind leaders Arsenal, having played two games more than the Gunners, and possibly ending excitable talk of a title bid.

Toon manager Eddie Howe later said: "All I'd say is that I'm really pleased with the team today. We were ourselves and we had chances, we just didn't take them.

"There were a lot of half-chance moments and presentable opportunities. A lot of moments where we didn't quite get our final ball right.

"We have high expectations of ourselves. It was two teams trying to impose themselves and trying to win. We dominated for long spells, they defended well.

"It's great commitment from the group. All you can do is sit back every week and be very proud of what they're delivering.

"Nick Pope made an incredible save which was a big moment in the game. Our two centre-backs [Fabian Schar and Sven Botman] are different in their styles but they compliment each other very well.

"The most important thing is that if you don't win, you don't lose."
