Steelers GM doesn't rule out return of controversial former starter
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

After leaving the NFL Draft with something to be desired in the defensive backfield, the Pittsburgh Steelers could use some depth.

Late in the teambuilding process, the Steelers don't have a lot of options to choose from.

That leaves the door open for a potential reunion, and one that GM Omar Khan has confirmed that the team is looking into:

The Return of Cam Sutton?

“You know, we’ll see,” Steelers GM Omar Khan told the WDVE Morning Show. “We did meet with Cam [Sutton], I think it was a couple weeks ago. It was more than just about the situation here, we just wanna see how he was doing. We spent six years with Cam, and they were a good six years with Cam. It was a good experience, and obviously, he had an opportunity to go to Detroit – had to make a business decision, but we’ll see. I will say this, I do like the depth we have at the position. You know, there’s some young guys in there that are gonna compete and have a lot of traits to be really good nickel corners, and I really like that group. … We’ll see what the future holds.”

You might be wondering why a player who just left last offseason is available on the open market.

It largely stems from his release following a warrant for his arrest that has now been legally resolved in the state of Florida, but was an obvious concern during the ongoing process.

The recently turned 29-year-old spent the first six years of his career in Pittsburgh, playing a variety of roles at a high level and recording eight interceptions, 38 pass breakups, and 168 tackles.
