Mets’ record-breaking hot dog sales immortalized as a card

Of course, all the excitement over $1 hot dogs was too much for some Mets fans to handle. One in particular made it his mission to eat as many dogs as possible, which caused so much excitement that other fans started throwing their wieners at him.

When all was said and done, the attendance for the Cubs-Mets game was 22,880 and 44,269 hot dogs were sold.

Topps not just honoring crazy Mets night

A swarm of bees made its way into Chase Field and were perched atop the netting behind home plate before the start of Tuesday’s matchup between the Diamondbacks and Dodgers. The possibility of it becoming a safety hazard caused a delay at the start of the game as the team notified the proper people to try and get some help with the bees.

Eventually, word got to Blue Sky Pest Control employee Matt Hilton. A half-hour later, Hilton was at Chase Field in his beekeeper gear, ready to collect the bees and get the ballgame started.

Topps is honoring Milton with his own card as well:

“It was a little nerve-wracking, I’m not going to lie,” Hilton said. “Lot of pressure to get this game going. But I was happy to come and take care of it.”

Hilton’s job didn’t end with just getting rid of the bees. Still dressed in full beekeeper attire, Hilton ended up throwing the ceremonial first pitch before the game. He received multiple standing ovations from the crowd and got some “M-V-P” chants as well. In a way, he actually was the MVP of that game, a 4-3 win for the Diamondbacks.

Who knows what wild moment Topps will be honoring next? It’s clear that the company is on the lookout for unique MLB moments to memorialize this season.
